Stability of Visual Field Enlargements Following Computer-Based Restitution Training — Results of a Follow-up

In the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, E. Kasten, E. Müller-Oehring and B.A. Sabel report data of a follow-up study to the original clinical trial that observed significant visual field enlargements in patients with cerebral lesions after computer-based training (therapy).

Patients were examined post-therapy after a training-free interval of approximately two years. After training (therapy) was discontinued, those patients who used their regained visual capacities not only in the setting of computer training (therapy) but in daily life either increased or maintained their ability to detect visual stimuli. Some patients who did not use areas of restored vision showed a decrease in visual function.
