Most of us take our vision for granted. The ability to make effective eye movements enables us to carry out our everyday tasks such as finding an object at the supermarket or putting away the dishes. Unfortunately, these normal eye movements are one of the many things affected after a brain injury and many victims require specific training to learn how to make effective use of their eye movements again.

Luckily there is a therapy program that is based on several decades of scientific research and has specifically been developed to help brain injury survivors regain this piece of their daily life. It’s called NeuroEyeCoach™ and we’re going to walk you through how to get started:

What is NueroEyeCoach?

NeuroEyeCoach™ is an innovative computer-based eye movement treatment approach aimed at improving a patient’s ability to scan their environment more efficiently. The training makes use of a well-established psychological paradigm called the Visual Search Task.

During a training session, the patient is asked to search a computer screen and decide if a particular item is present among other items. The level of difficulty will be altered depending on your individual needs and progress being made. Since this program is self-adaptive, it will continue to adjust the task difficulty to your deficits while encouraging efficient eye movements.

Who Can Benefit?

NeuroEyeCoach™ is targeted at patients who have suffered a visual disorder as a result of neurological brain damage that can be caused by a stroke or a Traumatic Brain Injury.

Patients who are suffering from these visual field deficits typically have additional difficulties with eye movements. These types of challenges translate into patients having a difficult time finding objects or bumping into things. More generally, they have difficulties in becoming aware of the events at the side of their visual field loss and in grasping a scene as a whole.

What Are the Benefits?

NeuroEyeCoach™ has a track record of proven results that show meaningful improvement in visual search performance. What does that mean? The results showed improvements in navigation skills and object finding for patients. There were also increases the efficiency of a patient’s eye movement and re-train the patient’s’ ability to make the most of their remaining vision.

The best part of NeuroEyeCoach™ is that it is performed in the comfort of your own home, on your own computer. The therapy has been specifically designed not to be a burden on your daily life. Not only will it have a real positive impact on your daily life, but the entire program can be completed in only 2-4 weeks.
