FAQs about Centers Offering VRT — Vision Rehabilitation after Stroke or TBI

NovaVision VRT™ Vision Restoration Therapy™, an FDA-approved method of vision rehabilitation after stroke or TBI, is offered at top facilities across the United States, as well as in Singapore and Germany. Read more about Partner Center requirements and specifications below.

What are the logistic requirements for a center to offer VRT?

In order to effectively administer Vision Restoration Therapy for vision rehabilitation after stroke or TBI, a center must have a quiet room with a desk for the device, an electrical outlet, and the capability for dim lighting. It is recommended to electronically transfer test results to NovaVision, which requires a high-speed internet connection. If a center is unable to obtain a high-speed internet connection, results can be saved on a memory stick and mailed to NovaVision.

What personnel does a center need to administer VRT?

Centers will need a physician in charge of the VRT program, and one or more technicians to perform the diagnostic tests that begin this method of vision rehabilitation after TBI or stroke. The technician is usually a therapist, nurse, or physician assistant. They perform the initial testing and monthly monitoring. The diagnostic test takes approximately two to three hours. The monthly follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes.

What are physician time requirements associated with administering VRT?

Time requirements will vary. Typically for each patient there are three 15-minute sessions during the diagnostic appointment. Additionally, there is a 20-30 minute follow-up appointment each month.

How is a new Partner Center trained?

There are two main areas of training for this technique or vision rehabilitation after stroke or TBI. The first is a scientific presentation presented by a NovaVision physician and the second part is hands-on training for the VRT examiners (therapists). The hands-on training will take place on the NovaVision VIDIT device, which is used to administer the diagnostic evaluations. This phase of training can be completed in one day and can be performed at the center location or at NovaVision headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida. Ongoing training is also provided to keep VRT center staff members current on the application.

Does NovaVision provide the center with the device necessary to perform the diagnostic testing?

Yes, NovaVision will provide all necessary equipment as part of the initial setup. This includes the diagnostic medical device.
