BOCA RATON, FLORIDA — Today NovaVision™ met with Florida Governor Jeb Bush at University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute where he was introduced to NovaVision™ VRT™ Vision Restoration Therapy™ (VRT ™). In this meeting, NovaVision™ President and CEO Navroze Mehta, University of Miami Neurologist Dr. José Romano and Neuro-Ophthalmologist Dr. Byron Lam explained the science behind VRT ™ and how it helps patients improve visual field deficit caused by stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

In 2004, University of Miami's Department of Neurology and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute were the first medical institutions in the United States to provide VRT ™ to patients in Florida and across the country. Today, VRT ™ is available at 30 clinics around the world that have treated more than 1,000 patients helping them to regain a function once considered untreatable.

"It is an honor to introduce Governor Bush to NovaVision™ VRT™ and our success because it is a testament to Florida's healthy entrepreneurial spirit and business environment," Mehta said. "By collaborating with medical experts at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, working with the local venture capital community, and tapping into Florida's talented workforce, NovaVision™ brought to market a technology that is improving lives in Florida and around the world."

Governor Bush had the opportunity to speak with 88-year-old Dr. Stanley Lorber, a retired physician and Florida resident who suffered a stroke six years prior to beginning VRT ™. Today, Dr. Lorber has experienced a 20 percent improvement in his visual field resulting in a substantial improvement in his quality of life.

"Prior to therapy, I was extremely uncomfortable in crowded places such as a supermarket, a cocktail party, a large restaurant, etc. Currently, I am able to shop or enter a congested area without fear of colliding with someone," Dr. Lorber explained.

Also on hand to learn about VRT ™ was University of Miami President Donna Shalala, Miller School of Medicine Dean Dr. Pascal Goldschmidt, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Chairman Dr. Carmen Puliafito, and other University of Miami officials.
